Capcom Confirms Resident Evil Triple Launch on Nintendo Switch 2

Updated:

RE Requiem, RE7, and Village launch natively on Switch 2 on February 27, 2026!

For the first time in over a decade, a mainline Resident Evil title will launch day-and-date on a Nintendo platform. Capcom has confirmed that three Resident Evil games will arrive simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026 - and all three are native ports, not cloud-streamed versions.

This marks a historic moment for Nintendo fans who have long waited for the survival horror franchise to receive proper support on the company's hardware.

The headline release is Resident Evil Requiem, known as Biohazard 9 in Japan, the latest mainline entry in Capcom's legendary survival horror franchise. The game features a dual-protagonist system pairing FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft with series veteran Leon S. Kennedy.

The setting takes players to the ruins of Raccoon City, where the Wrenwood Hotel holds terrifying secrets. Perhaps most notably, Requiem introduces a real-time switching mechanic between first-person and third-person viewpoints, allowing players to seamlessly shift perspectives depending on the situation.

This represents Capcom's most ambitious attempt to bridge the gameplay styles that divided fans after Resident Evil 7's first-person shift and the return to third-person in Resident Evil 4's remake.

The Classics Arrive Natively

Accompanying the new release are enhanced editions of two beloved entries in the series.

Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition Grotesque Ver. brings the series' first-person perspective debut to Switch 2. The Gold Edition includes all previously released epilogue scenarios and bonus content. The "Grotesque Version" is a Switch 2 exclusive that features the uncut content previously restricted in certain regions.

Resident Evil Village Z Version Gold Edition continues Ethan Winters' story in the expanded setting that took players from a mansion to an entire village filled with nightmarish creatures. This edition includes the "Winters' Expansion" DLC, which adds a third-person gameplay option for the main campaign, along with Bloodhunter costumes and additional scenarios.

Crucially, Capcom has emphasized that both titles run natively on Switch 2 hardware - a significant departure from the cloud-streamed versions that plagued the original Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo's Horror Renaissance

The simultaneous release of three Resident Evil titles signals a major shift in Capcom's approach to Nintendo platforms. While the original Switch received cloud versions of Resident Evil 7 and Village that required constant internet connections and suffered from latency issues, Switch 2 owners will experience these games running directly on their hardware.

For fans who have followed the franchise since its PlayStation origins, seeing a mainline Resident Evil launch alongside other platforms on a Nintendo console represents a full-circle moment. The last time Nintendo received day-one treatment for a numbered entry was Resident Evil 4's GameCube exclusivity back in 2005.

With February 27, 2026 approaching, Nintendo Switch 2 owners have plenty of survival horror to look forward to. For more Capcom releases, see Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
