Once Upon A Katamari Brings Rolling Gameplay Back After 14 Years

Once Upon A Katamari returns after 14 years with time-traveling rolling gameplay, 68 playable characters, and 4-player online multiplayer across all major platforms.

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced the release of Once Upon A Katamari, marking the franchise's first new entry in 14 years. Developed by RENGAME, the beloved puzzle action series returned with a time-traveling adventure across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on October 24, 2025.

The game's story began when The King of All Cosmos accidentally destroyed Earth and the stars while tampering with a mysterious scroll. Players guided The Prince as he rolled a katamari through different historical periods—including the Jurassic Era, Ice Age, and historic Japan—to rebuild the night sky and restore the cosmos.

Rolling through prehistoric times

Once Upon A Katamari introduced new power-ups to the classic rolling mechanics, including magnets that attracted nearby objects to make collection easier. The game featured 68 playable cousins, each with customizable color and face options, allowing players to create unique character designs. Fresh stages accompanied by an original soundtrack provided new environments to explore across multiple time periods.

The title expanded on the series' traditional gameplay with a 4-player online multiplayer mode called "KatamariBall," described as the galactic sport of choice across the Cosmos. Offline CPU competition was also available for players who preferred solo play. The game's adjustable difficulty settings welcomed both longtime fans and newcomers to the quirky world of Katamari.

Customizable Prince and cousins

Bandai Namco offered the game in two editions: a Standard Edition and "The King of All Sounds Edition" Deluxe package, which included the main game plus two soundtrack albums titled "Katamari Damacy Series Songs: Side A" and "Side B." Both editions came with three exclusive face customization parts as a pre-order bonus.
