Koei Tecmo Games has officially announced *Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly* remake is coming to PlayStation 5 on March 12, 2026. Digital pre-orders are now available on the PlayStation Store.
The remake follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they explore the haunted Minakami Village, an abandoned settlement cursed by vengeful spirits. Armed with the Camera Obscura—a supernatural device that captures and contains wraiths—players must navigate through terrifying encounters in this survival horror experience.
Enhanced Features
The remake brings significant improvements to the 2003 original:
- Enhanced Graphics: Refined character textures and completely reimagined village environments
- New Mechanics: Quick-reaction evasion system for sudden spirit attacks and a "Hold Hands with Mayu" feature for health restoration
- Evolved Camera Obscura: Enhanced focus, zoom, and filter-switching capabilities
- Spirit Power Damage: New system that triggers intense battle sequences
Editions Available
Players can choose between the standard edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the soundtrack, art book, charm, gloves, and decorative wings. A separate Deluxe Upgrade will also be available for existing owners.
