Elden Ring Switch 2 Edition Delayed to 2026 for Performance Optimization

Updated:

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware postponed Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 from 2025 to 2026 to ensure optimal performance on the platform.

The wait for portable Elden Ring just got a bit longer. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 has been pushed back to 2026, with Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware announcing the delay on October 24, 2025. The extra development time will go toward performance optimization to ensure the massive open-world adventure runs smoothly on Nintendo's next-generation hardware.

What's Included in Tarnished Edition

The Tarnished Edition will pack the complete Elden Ring experience into one package:

Elden Ring castle environment
  • The full base game
  • Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion
  • Four exclusive new armor pieces
  • Three Torrent mount appearance customization variants

Performance Takes Priority

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco made it clear that they're not willing to compromise on quality. The development teams determined that additional optimization work was essential to meet their standards for the Switch 2 version. Given how demanding the Lands Between can be—with its sprawling landscapes, intricate dungeons, and intense boss battles—taking extra time to nail the performance makes sense.

The delay should allow the studios to deliver smooth framerates and stable performance, ensuring that dying to Malenia feels just as "fair" on Switch 2 as it does on other platforms. With the Switch 2 already hitting 10.36 million units sold and growing rapidly, the installed base will be substantial by the 2026 launch window.

Good News for All Platforms

Here's a silver lining: the four new armor sets and three Torrent customization options originally planned as Switch 2 exclusives will now launch simultaneously across all platforms in 2026. Every Tarnished will get access to the fresh drip at the same time.

About Elden Ring

For those who've somehow avoided the hype since February 25, 2022, Elden Ring is the groundbreaking collaboration between FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki and fantasy author George R. R. Martin. The game blends punishing Souls-like combat with true open-world exploration, set in the dark fantasy realm of the Lands Between.

Players take on the role of a Tarnished warrior seeking to claim the Elden Lordship after the Golden Order shattered and demigods went to war over fragments of the Elden Ring. It's become one of the most acclaimed action RPGs of the generation, praised for its vast world, challenging gameplay, and incredible sense of discovery.

The developers apologized to fans eagerly awaiting the portable version but promised to deliver a properly optimized experience when it finally arrives in 2026.
