Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 1 Free: 24 Cosmetics and Vault Card
Gearbox releases Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 1 as free DLC featuring Rush's holiday mission, 24 cosmetics, and a new Vault Card for early to mid-game players.
Gearbox Software surprised the Borderlands 4 community by releasing Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day as free DLC on November 20, 2025. Originally planned as premium content, the developer made this inaugural pack complimentary while compensating Deluxe and Super Deluxe edition owners with a fifth bonus pack.

What's Included
Bounty Pack 1 delivers holiday-themed content centered around Rush, one of Borderlands 4's fan-favorite characters. Players join Rush in confronting Minister Screw during a Mercenary Day adventure that can be accessed at any point during the leveling journey. The pack is designed for early to mid-game players seeking cosmetic variety and progression boosts.

The free DLC includes:
- New mission content featuring Rush as a companion character
- One Vault Card with 24 unlockable cosmetics and 4 rerollable gear pieces
- Holiday-themed narrative celebrating Mercenary Day
- Accelerated leveling progression through Vault Card rewards
How to Access
Players must update Borderlands 4 with the November 20 patch (released at 9 AM PT) to access the content. After updating, locate a gift-wrapped present in any major hub—it will appear on the map as a mission marker. Interacting with this present initiates the Mercenary Day questline.

Vault Card System
The Vault Card progression system rewards cosmetics and gear through gameplay. Players earn 24 customization items by completing challenges and missions, while four types of equipment can be rerolled multiple times for different stat variations. This system allows early-game players to acquire powerful gear without grinding endgame content.

Developer Statement
Gearbox acknowledged that time constraints during development prevented them from including all originally planned content for Bounty Pack 1. As a gesture of gratitude to the community, they released the pack for free while ensuring Deluxe and Super Deluxe edition owners receive additional value through a fifth bounty pack at no extra cost.

Future Borderlands 4 Content
Bounty Packs 2-5 remain premium DLC exclusive to Deluxe and Super Deluxe edition owners. Gearbox confirms these packs will feature more substantial content than the inaugural free release. The roadmap also includes:
- December 2025: Bloomreaper, the first Invincible boss encounter
- Q1 2026: Story Pack 1 featuring new Vault Hunter C4SH and multiple missions in a new zone
- 2026: Free Takedown endgame content with challenging multi-enemy encounters
