The megaphone feature activates through the Switch 2's microphone, allowing players to call villagers by name. When players speak a villager's name into the megaphone, that character responds and approaches the player, eliminating the need to search across the entire island for specific residents.

Existing Switch owners can access the Switch 2 Edition enhancements through an upgrade pass purchase, maintaining progress while gaining access to the visual and control improvements. The upgrade path preserves islands, villagers, and accumulated items across the transition.

Ver.3.0 Free Update - Kapp'n's Resort Hotel

The Ver.3.0 update releases simultaneously with the Switch 2 Edition on January 15, 2026, for both Switch and Switch 2 versions. Kapp'n opens a resort hotel on the deserted island, introducing new hospitality mechanics to the established gameplay loop.

The resort hotel system adds accommodation management to the game's existing crafting and decoration mechanics. Players can welcome visiting characters to the hotel, customize guest rooms, and manage resort operations alongside their established island routines.

Resetti starts a new business venture in this update, marking a significant evolution for the character previously known for lecturing players about saving their games. The update expands explorable areas on the island and introduces new encounters that build on the existing cast of animal villagers and special visitors.

The free update arrives simultaneously across both platforms, ensuring the player base experiences the new content together regardless of hardware. Ver.3.0 represents the largest content addition to New Horizons since the November 2021 Happy Home Paradise DLC.
