Nintendo later announced the game sold over 5.8 million copies worldwide in its first week, making it one of the strongest launches in the franchise's history across both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms. Strong Launch Performance

The standard Nintendo Switch version sold 872,552 copies during the tracking period, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition moved 612,905 units. The strong performance across both platforms demonstrated broad appeal among Nintendo's player base.

The Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition bundle significantly boosted console sales, helping the Switch 2 surpass 200,000 units sold during the same week. The game substantially outperformed the week's second-place software title, Mario Kart World.

Game Features

Set in the redeveloped Lumiose City, Pokémon Legends: Z-A combines classic RPG gameplay with modern mechanics. The game introduced real-time Pokémon battles as a series first, where trainers and their Pokémon move dynamically during combat, replacing traditional turn-based mechanics.

Real-time battle system

Mega Evolution serves as a central gameplay feature, with numerous Mega-Evolved Pokémon available throughout the adventure. Players can participate in the Z-A Royale Competition, with new Ranked Battle seasons adding fresh competitive content, climbing ranks from Z to A by winning battles in special battle zones that appear nightly in Lumiose City.

Post-Launch Support

A paid DLC expansion titled Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension launched alongside the base game on September 12, 2025, offering additional story content, new Mega-Evolved Pokémon, and investigation missions in mysterious spatial distortions. Additional story content is scheduled for release during the winter months.
