Magical Girl Village of Old Customs Confirmed for 2026 Release on Switch and Steam

Acacia and Good Smile Company confirmed that their collaborative horror adventure game Mahou Shoujo no Inshuu Mura (魔法少女ノ因習村 / Magical Girl Village of Old Customs) will launch in 2026 for Nintendo Switch and Steam.

The game represents a dark twist on the magical girl genre, combining traditional Japanese horror elements with a deadly survival game premise. Players experience a narrative where magical girls must face a nightly ritual where one of them is sacrificed.

Story: The Deadly Hanamuke no Gi Ceremony

Protagonist Watanuki Sakuya awakens in an old shrine to discover a horrifying scene: a girl's corpse hanging with flowers blooming from her entire body. Sakuya had visited the village with her best friend for a certain purpose, but now finds herself trapped in a nightmare.

She and nine other surviving girls all have flowers blooming from one eye, marking them as chosen "magical girls" for the Kamibanaka (神孕花 / God-Bearing Flower). Every night at 20:00, the village conducts the Hanamuke no Gi (花剥ノ儀 / Flower-Peeling Ceremony), during which one girl is selected to be offered to the Kamibanaka and hanged.

The protagonist Sakuya is described as a girl who tends to close her heart and views the world cynically. She was brought to the village with her best friend and became caught up in the Hanamuke no Gi ceremony. Despite having been treated like a slave by her friend for certain reasons, Sakuya maintains an honest nature and refuses to pretend to be someone she's not.

Her magical attributes: - Flower: White Dandelion (白たんぽぽ) - Magic: Chinami-wata (因ミ綿) - Ability to intervene with the past
