THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2: Remake Hits Switch December 11 with New Weapons and Modes
SEGA's legendary arcade rail shooter returns with nine new weapons, a creature database, and co-op multiplayer when it launches on Nintendo Switch this December.
Arcade horror fans, your long-awaited zombie hunt is almost here. THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2: Remake launches on Nintendo Switch on December 11, 2025, bringing SEGA's legendary 1998 rail shooter back from the grave with modernized visuals and a stack of new content.

A Classic Reborn for Modern Hardware
Forever Entertainment and MegaPixel Studio have rebuilt the arcade classic from the ground up, delivering enhanced graphics that bring the horror atmosphere to life while preserving the tight, responsive gameplay that made the original a quarter-munching phenomenon. The 1998 arcade original was the sequel that cemented the franchise's place in gaming history, and this remake aims to honor that legacy.
Players step into the shoes of AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart, deployed to investigate a city overrun by the undead. The nightmare unfolds one year after the Curien Mansion incident from the first game, as a new outbreak threatens to consume everything in its path.

Nine New Weapons Join the Arsenal
The remake isn't just a visual upgrade—MegaPixel Studio has packed in substantial new content. Nine additional weapon types expand your options beyond the classic pistol, giving players new ways to dispatch the shambling hordes. Whether you prefer rapid-fire or heavy-hitting firepower, the expanded arsenal provides fresh tactical choices.

Creature Registration File Adds Depth
A brand-new Creature Registration File system lets players catalog every grotesque enemy they encounter. This bestiary tracks weakpoints and vital information about each creature type, rewarding thorough play and helping newcomers learn the tricks needed to survive each encounter.
Multiple Game Modes
The remake offers three distinct ways to play:
- Classic Campaign - The full story mode with branching paths and multiple endings
- Boss Mode A time-attack challenge pitting you against the game's infamous bosses
- Training Mode Hone your skills before diving into the main campaign

Co-Op Returns
Grab a friend for local co-op, supporting both single-system and local wireless play for up to two players. The House of the Dead was always best experienced alongside a partner, and this remake preserves that quintessential arcade experience.
The game supports multiple languages including Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese. Both a remastered soundtrack and the original classic music are available for purists.
PlayStation Versions Coming 2026
While Switch owners get first dibs in December, PlayStation fans will need to wait a bit longer. THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2: Remake hits PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on February 26, 2026, with both physical and digital editions planned.
The original House of the Dead: Remake launched on Switch in April 2022 before expanding to other platforms, and this sequel follows a similar rollout strategy.
